It’s easy for homeowners to become wrapped up in and excited about the “big three” exterior home renovations:
The excitement is completely reasonable; getting a new roof, siding, or windows will make any home look so much better, but not every exterior project has to be this large. Many small and affordable exterior renovations make a big difference in the look of your home. You can have these projects completed on their own or, if you are planning on starting a larger project, add them on without breaking your budget.
Think about making these small but beautiful changes to your home this year.
Adding New Soffit and Fascia to a Roof
We call these the forgotten parts of a roof because many homeowners can’t identify them or explain why they are important to their home. Soffit and Fascia are the materials that run underneath (soffit) and around (fascia) your roof. They are essentially the trim on the outside of your home and the underside of your roof’s overhang. While they serve important functions, they also can make a big aesthetic difference. Replacing the soffit and fascia doesn’t require a full roof renovation, but it can still make your home look refreshed (especially if you change up the color).
If you are planning on having your roof redone, it’s always a good idea to ask your contractor about replacing the soffit and fascia, as well. This will give your home a nice, new look for a reasonable price.
Adding Shutters to Windows
Have your windows replaced? Want to change the “face” of your house? Consider having shutters installed this year! Shutters may be a small project but they can completely change the look of your home. They are a great way to add a bit of accented colors while dressing up old and worn windows.
If you getting your windows replaced this year, ask your contractor about your options for having shutters installed.
New Garage and Entry Doors
If you’re having new siding installed you can easily complement the new look of your home with a new garage or entry door (or both!). Many homeowners are surprised at how different their homes look when they make a change as small as their doors, especially if they opt for a new, bolder color. There’s another benefit to having a new garage door installed: return on investment. Year after year, studies show that new garage doors have the highest payoff when it comes to selling your home. It’s a small project that is perfect to add to your next exterior renovation.
