Although the first day of winter isn’t until December 21st, we have already seen a few days of snowfall. If there is one question most roofing contractors in Minnesota know they will get after the first snowfall it’s, “can you replace my roof during the winter?”

Roofing During the Winter Months
The quick and easy answer to this question is yes, we can and do replace roofs, siding, windows, etc. all throughout the winter months, but this simple “yes” comes with a caveat:
While our crews at Schmidt Roofing are out and about all year round, they may not be able to work if the weather becomes too severe. When a storm hits, it’s dangerous for our crews to be working on your home. Ice and snow can delay an exterior project, but you can rest assured that we will get right on it as soon as the weather clears up!
Should You Even Bother Scheduling an Exterior Project During the Winter?
While you may be tempted to just forgo all exteriors projects during the winter, it’s not always the best idea. The weather in Minnesota is especially harsh during the winter, and your roofing and siding are the first lines of defense against water, one of the largest threats to your home. If there is an issue with either, it’s always best to have it taken care of immediately. You don’t ever want water leaking into your house, least of all when the temperature is at its coldest.
More importantly, you’ll want to protect your home before the spring thaw begins. If water has entered your home during the winter and become frozen, you could be running into some serious water damage issues once the spring hits.
